Asthma is a chronic lung disease in which the lining of the airways become inflamed and swollen, restricting the flow of air in the lungs. This makes it difficult for air to move in and out of the lungs, causing symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and/or chest tightness. It is currently estimated that 12 million Americans have asthma, including over 4 million children.
